Sevilla in Havana

3 Star

It's hard not to be completely blown away when you first step into the lobby of Cuba's Hotel Sevilla in Havana, with its high ceilings and expensive looking marble tiling. It's very easy to consider the photographs of famous pre-revolution guests as a stunning endorsement of the quality of the service, which remains to this day despite extensive renovations and turn over of staff. Despite this grand beginning, the staff are very friendly, down to earth, speak excellent English and will do their best to help you make the most of your stay at Cuba's Hotel Sevilla.

And it's very easy to do just that, given the superb location of the Hotel Sevilla to Havana's main tourist sights. One of the great pleasures of a stay at the Sevilla Hotel is exploring central and old Havana, and you will not need a car- though you may want to try the taxis just for the experience involved! Other than for the experience though, walking will be just fine for visitors of Havana's Hotel Sevilla - the Centro and Vieja areas are within easy strolling distance, and the delightful waterfront should take you all of 5 minutes to reach.

For location, architecture, heritage and aesthetics, Cuba's Hotel Sevilla is an often overlooked choice, which should be considered by all wanting to take in the sights of Havana from an extremely comfortable base.

Please note that although there is a roof-top restaurant, several clients report that it is often closed, and may charge extra.

'Faded grandeur' covers the Sevilla. Our first room was grand, if faded, with a lovely little balcony over the main street. Our second room was simply faded, tiny and dark with only a brick wall and broken stuff outside the window. Breakfast was also hit and miss. Our first experience, however, of what we now know to be standard in Cuba - chambermaid sculpted art. Hotel well-positioned in the city. Rating 3 out of 5 J.M. in February 2010

We like the Sevilla, being central for what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. which was basically to wander around Havana in a relaxed manner and do things on an ad-hoc basis. I think you need to know that the roof top restaurant is unavailable most of the time, and the one time it was available (our last morning), we paid an extra five CUC's. J.H. in February 2010
