Hotel Nacional de Cuba
One of Cuba’s most iconic and charismatic art-deco style hotels, Hotel Nacional de Cuba was built in the 1930s and enjoys a commanding position overlooking the ocean and Malecon promenade, in the centre of downtown Havana.
In the early days it was the hub of Havana’s heady nightlife with a flow of notable figures staying or performing here including Winston Churchill, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra and many screen idols from Hollywood’s golden years. When exploring the hotel, guests can see many historic photos and memorabilia from the iconic guests who have stayed here.
Even today it’s a very popular hotel with our clients who are attracted to the large palm-fringed outdoor pool, breezy gardens and terrace where you can sink into really comfortable Chesterfield sofas, sip a mojito and listen to live music with views across to the ocean.
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba certainly has a faded grandeur and whilst retaining an iconic style that is part of Havana’s fabric, the hotel is not a luxury choice, however there are a lot of facilities to enjoy including 4 bars, a large buffet restaurant, 2 a la carte restaurants & a snack bar as well as a large pool, small gym and shopping.
Music and dance are equally represented at the Nacional where 1930s style cabaret-shows are hosted nightly at the Cabaret Parisien, second only to the Tropicana. Meanwhile, Salon 1930 is dedicated to the world famous Compay Segundo (of Buena Vista Social Club fame) and his successors perform here weekly.

Rooms at Hotel Nacional de Cuba
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is an iconic part of Havana’s rich history and a great place to stay for those that want to really feel they are reliving the past. Well located with a good range of facilities, the gardens and outdoor pool are both highlights of this very popular hotel. We especially love a relaxing late afternoon tea in the gardens as the sun starts to set over the ocean.
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba has 426 rooms with 1930s classic style, mahogany furniture and are elegant and functional, featuring everything a hotel room requires albeit with a slightly dated feel. All rooms have a private bathroom with a small bathtub and are in-keeping with the overall style of the hotel.
For a small supplement it is possible to upgrade to an ocean view room offering views across the Malecon promenade to the sea and the hotel also has an executive floor offering enhanced rooms, private breakfast area, business facilities and dedicated staff.
One and two-bedroomed Suites are also available allowing for extra living space, perfect for those seeking greater comfort of family groups.
